Why We Started a Montessori Toy Store

Why We Started a Montessori Toy Store

If you’re a parent in today’s world, you understand the struggle.

Screen time is everywhere. Overstimulating toys are the norm. And finding developmental toys that actually encourage creativity can feel overwhelming.

We experienced this firsthand — and it changed everything.

That’s why we started a Montessori toy store focused on helping children learn, grow, and build imagination through purposeful play.

Here’s how it all began.

Our Story: When Screen Time Took Over

When my son was four years old, I began noticing something that deeply concerned me.

He was struggling with high anxiety — and an unhealthy attachment to his iPad.

As a first-time mom, I didn’t fully understand how excessive screen time could impact social skills, emotional regulation, and imaginative development. I just knew something wasn’t right.

When I would offer him toys to play with, he would quickly lose interest and ask for his iPad instead. Even around other children, he struggled to interact and engage in imaginative play.

It broke my heart.

I didn’t want this to be his normal.

So I started searching for answers.

Discovering Montessori Toys

During my research, I came across Montessori toys.

What immediately stood out was their simplicity.

Montessori-inspired toys are:

- Open-ended

- Development-focused

- Designed for imaginative play

- Supportive of fine motor skills

- Calming instead of overstimulating

No flashing lights.
No loud music.
No batteries required.

Instead of encouraging passive entertainment, Montessori toys encourage problem-solving, creativity, independence, and focus.

And slowly, I began to see a change.

Why Montessori Toys Made a Difference

As we introduced Montessori-inspired developmental toys into our home, something shifted.

My son began:

- Using his imagination again

- Building independently

- Engaging in creative play

- Interacting more confidently

The simplicity of the toys allowed his mind to work again.

And that’s when I realized something important:

The right toys matter.

But there was still a problem.

What Was Missing in the Montessori Toy Market

While I loved the Montessori philosophy, I didn’t love everything available on the market.

Many Montessori toys were:

- Bright, overly bold colors

- Heavy wooden materials

- Not ideal for younger siblings

- Made from materials I wasn’t fully confident in

As a mom, I wanted toys that were:

- Aesthetically calming

- Safe for babies and toddlers

- Non-toxic

- Soft and versatile

- Developmentally appropriate

So the idea was born.

Creating a Montessori Toy Store for Modern Families

After years of refining the vision, Lytl was created.

We took the Montessori concept and designed toys that are:

- Neutral and aesthetically pleasing

- Safe for all ages (with appropriate supervision)

- Made from high-quality silicone instead of plastic

- Designed to support development through open-ended play

Why silicone?

Silicone is:

- BPA-free

- BPS-free

- Free from petroleum and phthalates

- Soft and flexible

- Safer for teething babies

- Lighter than traditional wooden toys

Parents already trust silicone for plates, spoons, and cups.

So why not toys?

We wanted developmental toys that felt safe, calming, and versatile for everyday family life.

More Than a Montessori Toy Store

Lytl is more than a Montessori toy store.

It’s the result of one mom wanting something better for her child.

We created toys that are:

- Developmental

- Fun and engaging

- Open-ended

- Designed for imaginative play

- Made to grow with your child

Because we know how hard it is to find toys that truly do all of those things.

We’ve seen what these toys have done for our son.

And we want to help other families experience that same shift — from overstimulation to intention.
