We experienced this firsthand — and it changed everything. That’s why we started LYTL®, a Montessori-inspired toy store focused on helping children learn, create, and explore through purposeful play.
Our Story: When Screen Time Took Over
When my son was four years old, I began noticing something that deeply concerned me. He had become strongly attached to his iPad, toys struggled to hold his attention, and imaginative play felt harder for him.
I didn’t want screens to become the center of his childhood, so I started looking for ways to create more room for hands-on, creative play.
Discovering Montessori-Inspired Toys
During my research, I came across Montessori-inspired toys. What immediately stood out was their simplicity.
They are often open-ended, development-focused, supportive of fine motor skills, and designed to let children actively participate instead of watching a toy perform for them.
No flashing lights. No loud music. No batteries required.
Why Simpler Toys Made a Difference in Our Home
As we introduced more open-ended toys into our routines, I saw my son spend more time building, creating, and playing independently. That experience shaped the kind of products I wanted LYTL® to offer.
The right toy doesn’t have to do everything for a child. Sometimes the value comes from leaving room for the child to decide what happens next.
What I Felt Was Missing
I loved the simplicity behind Montessori-inspired play, but I also wanted toys that felt visually calm, versatile, easy to care for, and made from materials I felt confident bringing into our home.
That became the starting point for LYTL®.
Creating LYTL® for Modern Families
LYTL® toys are designed around open-ended play, calm earth tones, and age-specific developmental use. Many of our toys are made from BPA-free, food-grade silicone, while select products also incorporate natural beech wood.
Every LYTL® product has its own age recommendation. Some begin at 6+ months, others at 12+ months, and products with smaller or removable components are recommended for ages 3+.
We believe families should be able to choose toys based on both the kind of play they want to encourage and the age guidance for that specific product.
